About John



John was born and raised here in Nutley. His parents are Dr. John Kelly and Cindy Kelly (DeJackmo). He is the grandson of former Nutley Mayor John V. Kelly, Sr.  John graduated from St. Peter's Prep in Jersey City. He received a B.S. from Georgia Tech in Computer Science. Upon graduation from college, John worked as a video game designer and programmer. Ultimately, John  attended Seton Hall University School of Law and received his J.D. John passed and was admitted to the bar on his first attempt to New Jersey and New York. John practices law in private practice in Essex County.



John believes service to his community and country is imperative. He believes we are all called to make our corner of the world just a little bit better. That is why John joined the NJ Army National Guard and serves on various community organizations. John is an Army veteran, who has been deployed to Puerto Rico in 2017 in the wake of Hurricane Maria and to the middle east in 2019 in support of the Global War on Terror. John serves as board member for Nutley Family Service Bureau, and various charitable and civic organizations, including Nutley Irish American Alliance, Nutley Unico, Nutley Columbus Day Parade Committee, St. Patricks Day Parade Committee, John V. Kelly Memorial Foundation, and is a former member of the Nutley Rotary.


Family Values

Family is important to John. That not only includes his immediate family, but he considers the larger Nutley community as part of his family. His desire is to carry positive values forward to current and future generations, which is why his campaign slogan is Bringing Nutley Values to Future Generations. His immediate family includes. Dr. John and Cindy Kelly (DeJackmo) and his five sisters, Lauren, Elyse, DIandra, Alexa, and Christa.
